Laser for Spider Veins

Laser Treatment for Spider Veins

Spider Veins are small blood vessels in the skin that appear web-like and red, blue, or purple in color. They are called also telangiectasia.

Spider veins and varicose veins occur in the legs when the one-way valves in the blood vessels no longer work right, which lets blood collect in the veins instead of flowing back to the heart. This makes the veins widen, often becoming unsightly and uncomfortable. Most commonly, varicose veins near the skin surface are caused by leaky valves in veins deeper in the leg. Spider veins and varicose veins can affect women and men of any age, but they are most common in women of childbearing age or older.

How It Works

The laser hand piece will deliver light energy into your skin and will be absorbed by the blood within the vein being targeted, while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Once the blood absorbs this energy, the vein will heat up and it will affect the vessel lining. Thus, causing the vessel to constrict and eventually fade from view leaving your legs looking clear and as beautiful as ever.

Laser Treatment for Varicose Veins, What To Expect On The Day Of Treatment

Before your IconTM leg vein treatment, your doctor will typically apply a gel to the area being treated. This will help ensure the laser energy is delivered appropriately and will help cool the area during and after the treatment.

The provider will begin the treatment by moving the laser hand piece over your skin, following the length of the vein and pulsing the energy as they go. You will be provided safety goggles before the treatment to protect your eyes but you may still see flashes of light as the laser energy is being delivered to your skin. You will also feel a mild sensation and heat on the skin during the treatment. Your provider may cool the area after the treatment using a cool roller, cold air or ice packs to help with any discomfort.

The vessels may undergo immediate graying or blanching, or they may exhibit a slight purple or red color change. The vessels will fully or partially fade in about ten to fourteen days. Schedule a follow-up appointment for evaluation. Repeat treatments may be performed every three to four weeks. One to four treatments may be necessary. Do not pick, remove, or pull at any darkened lesions, as scarring may occur.
